3: BiSS-C Features and Additional Information
Category | Parameter | Specification/Details | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
BiSS-C Features | Data Transmission Rate and Delay Compensation | Supports 10 Mbit/s; during each data cycle, the master learns and compensates for line delays | Suitable for cable lengths up to 100 meters |
Data Channels | Can transmit multiple channels, allowing position information and status to be sent in one frame | ||
Communication Mode | Supports unidirectional (like SSI) and bidirectional communication; in bidirectional mode, parameters can be exchanged without interrupting sensor data transmission | In bidirectional mode, the sensor uses the last recognized logic level on the clock line at the end of the cycle as a control/data bit. | |
Bus Configuration | Connection Method | Supports both point-to-point and bus (chain) configurations; each slave has BiSS-In and BiSS-Out connectors | The clock line is passed through, so all slaves receive the clock signal simultaneously. |

Additional Notes and Instructions
Installation and Wiring Precautions:
Use an elastic soft coupling between the encoder shaft and the user’s output shaft to avoid damage to the encoder shaft system due to axial movement and run-out.
Ensure that the axial misalignment between the encoder shaft and the user output shaft does not exceed 0.20 mm, and the deviation angle is less than 1.5°.
Avoid knocking, impacts, and dropping the encoder during installation.
Do not reverse the power line and the ground wire when wiring; the ground wire should be as thick as possible (generally larger than φ3).
The output wires should not overlap to prevent damage to the output circuit; the signal line must not be connected directly to DC power or AC current.
The motor and other equipment connected to the encoder must be well grounded to prevent static electricity.
Use shielded cables for wiring and carefully check the wiring before starting the machine.
During long-distance transmission, consider the signal attenuation factor and choose an output mode with low impedance and strong anti-interference capability; avoid using the encoder in strong electromagnetic environments.
Selection Steps:
If you have previously used encoders from other brands, please provide the brand and model information so our engineers can advise on an equivalent replacement with high cost performance.
Choose the encoder type based on your application: 1) Incremental encoder, 2) Absolute encoder, 3) Draw Wire Sensors, or 4) Manual Pulse Generator.
Select your desired output format (for incremental encoders: NPN/PNP/LINE DRIVER/PUSH PULL) or interface (such as Parallel, SSI, BiSS, Modbus, CANopen, Profibus, DeviceNET, Profinet, EtherCAT, Power Link, Modbus TCP).
Determine the required resolution: Gertech incremental encoders offer up to 50,000 ppr and absolute encoders up to 29 bits.
Finally, select the housing diameter and shaft diameter.
Technical Support and Development:
Our professional technical team, led by Dr. Zhang, has made many breakthroughs in encoder development. Besides standard incremental encoders, Gertech now offers products with Profinet, EtherCAT, Modbus-TCP, and Power-Link support.
